How Should African American Christians respond to this Nations Pending War?
By R. Lynn Butler

Pray! As African Americans we may want to believe that this is not our battle, but on 9/11 many African Americans were among those who lost their lives, and many will die defending our nation abroad and in our own land, should we face another attack. Yes, America was attacked on 9/11, which ironically (911) is our nations emergency call for help and after 9/11 we did rally as one. We must continue in that spirit and continue praying always for one another and our country putting God first in all that we ask.

We may find it hard to trust our leaders because we know their history, we do not know why God chose the leaders he chose but as the song goes "The battle is not yours it's the Lord's", we can not stop God's plan, all we can do is pray that we are used by God to love with a pure heart, help those in need, and have faith that our role in that plan will be in the center of God's awesome love.

We must realize that globally the battle is the Lord's, pray that our nation doesn't declare war on an innocent nation and require us or those in the military to behave in a way that clearly violates God's Word.

We must remember America was not the first to declare war. On 9/11 war was declared on us. Let's pray that we target the right enemy. As Americans must represent a nation united, (Romans 13:1-2) it is the responsibility of our government leaders to protect this nation against those who would destroy it and as war seems evident, all our lives are in danger therefore we must pray for wisdom, mercy, God's guidance, protection, presence, strength, and deliverance.

We may have our own view of our nation's leaders and those who are in power concerning the pending war, but what really matters is God's view and according to the Bible (Romans 13:1 and 4) Paul writes, "Every person is to be in subjection to their governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God and those which exist are established by God". We must believe that God is in control, pray to God with humility, in subjection to Him and dependence upon Him, with reverence unto Him.

If America should go to war, all its citizen is at risk. Though we may have our issues with a nation that has treated us with such racial degradation, we are Americans. Let's pray for wisdom, our nation, its citizen, our leaders, our children, and our military. One Nation under God with liberty, and justice for all.
