Vesting power in the people requires giving authority to the people and rights to the people. America, being a Democratic Republic that promotes the concept of Democracy throughout the world even to the point of overthrowing other governments by means of war in the name of Democracy, cannot technically lay claim to practicing true Democracy, not as long as the majority lack true power.

If the people (the majority) had power, there would be no poor. The people with the power are not a majority but a minority [with wealth] in America so again, technically, this country is not practicing true Democracy, even defined by its own politically correct communications specialist, Webster.

One of their own Western philosophers, Plato, distinguished the system of oligarchy from Democracy like thus: The oligarchical state to a Greek meant a state government by and in the interest of, the well-born among whom the possession of property is heredity, while a democratic state was one governed by and for the "many" who have neither birth nor property (A History of Political Theory, Sabine).

In America, wealth determines power, and since the wealthy are a mere 1 - 5% of the country, they hold the most power, which is completely contrary to the concept of Democracy. The powerless are the majority of the country and though there may reside in the middle class sector on the economic scale, they actually have no say-so in how the country in run, neither do their supposed elected officials.

If the social-political atmosphere of America were truly controlled by the people, there would be more money in the pockets of the average worker thus less need for government intervention in personal affairs and civil rights, less government control of taxes, less military spending, less sexuality and violence across the cultures, and virtually no class or racism determining who's who.

Because the power lies in the hands of a few wealthy, they must protect their interest, which is money. Whatever social phenomena that draws the most money, however, the powers that be allow it. If the people were truly in control, this would not be because average people will agree more on a moral level than on a political one.

Politics and money control America, not Democracy. The powerful seek to enlarge their purses through a quest for more money and power regardless of what people or culture their efforts destroy. As the time draws nigh for the world to come under the rule of One, the masses will only suffer more at the hands of America's Democracy, the wealthy.
