Preserving the Black Vote in 2007
"Massa, are yous going to allow us ta vote in 2007, suh?"
With all due respect to those who fought, were hurt and died in the Civil Rights Movement - for a cause they saw as worthy - to eat and be educated along side whitey, remember, there was a whole nother mass of Blacks who also fought and died for the struggle, but from underneath the umbrella of another Black perspective. They chose other ways in which to demand those rights, instead of fretful pleading.
Like a headline drawn from 1960, the article below is a plea from today's Black leaders, who are a descendent generation of the Civil Rights crowd. In an Afromerica Interpretation of the article, we will provide an in-depth deliberation against their plea.
Afromerica Interpreted Analysis
It seems that the United States Congress has the choice of whether to re-grant Blacks the right to vote in 2007, but there are advocates for Black America who are determined to challenge this decision and pressure Congress to do the right thing. How in the world will they do this without jeopardizing what little integrity they have left?
Article says
Representatives from several national organizations announced the goal of collecting 1 million signatures in a petition drive to encourage Congressional reauthorization of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
AIA (Afromerica Interpreted Analysis)
This seems like a very organized effort to make the case, which could possibly "encourage" Congress to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act (as if there should be a Voting Rights Act in the first place seeing this is the land of the free). So whose going to lead this effort and what in the world makes them think it will work against such a vehement group of white supremacist racist?
Article says
At a press conference convened in the nation's capital, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, president of the Rainbow Push Coalition, discussed the petition as one of several strategies to ensure the reauthorization of the Act.
AIA
Well don't that beat all, a well-planned strategy to change the world of racism here in America. Is not the Voting Rights Act a thing of the past and should be thrown from the books anyway, seeing "there is no racism in the U.S. anymore because everyone has the right and opportunity to do and get what they want according to political correctness?" By the way, Jesse, according to Democrats, it seems Blacks are not counted anyway during election time so why should we care what happens in the next few years?
Article says
'There will be three critical parts of the Voting Rights Act to expire in 2007 unless reauthorized by Congress,' said Jackson. 'We must be ever vigilant to protect our right to vote and not be swayed by media campaigns highlighting events that divert our attention [from] our mission.'
AIA
Even if we protect our right to vote, does that mean that Blacks will be counted in elections thereafter? Or is the election fraud complaint campaign just a defeated front to disgrace and disarm the Republican Party. It seems that with or without the right to vote Blacks are not considered important in the election process, so why do we participate?
Article says
Attendees at the press conference made a call to defenders of civil and human rights. 'Unless we want to go back to the old days when we were not allowed to vote because of our gender, race, culture and spoken language, this law must stay intact,' said Murphy.
AIA
Do we not continue to complain about such matters even today? So what makes this day any different from the "old days?" The fact is, this is a racist country and there is no and probably never will be racial harmony - as part of the "Dream" of the Civil Rights Movement - in the form of equality. Who are these Black people who are concerned about such a ridiculous threat any way? Are they all over 65 or is there a new generation up and coming that fears and depends on the white man the way Civil Rights leaders do.
Article says
'We hope to activate the people on and off campuses. We want to engage fraternities, sororities, HBCUs, people at the beauty salons and barbershops in this effort,' said Fernandes.
AIA
If there were a chance that Congress disannuls the right for Blacks to vote, what more proof would we need that we live in a racist society? This effort at political advocacy is a waste of time and human energy and a continued compromise of Black dignity. Let them take Black's right to vote away, WE WANT THEM TO!
