AFRO IGNORANCE
blkgirl (8K)The Black Girl

According to a story from Blackamericanweb.com, a Texas school district decided to "label" a Black student just that - "the Black girl" in the high school's National Honor Society photo. The faculty apologized and said "the caption apparently was intended as a placeholder until the yearbook staff could identify the student."

The girl was the only Black student in the photo and no one apparently knew her name so resorted to what they knew best, ignorance.

We at Afromerica figure the only way to deal with stuff like this is to educate our children to what they are up against in this society, not hiding reality but being honest.

The story does not mention whether an adult or student made the choice, but if an adult from the school faculty did, then who says racism is not alive, and if a student made the decision, then we and especially our children are not out of the waters yet.

Afromerica contacted the school with the email below, and will wait on a response. Visit the school - Waxahachie High School - here.

"A placeholder until the yearbook staff could identify the student?" Guess the student has been nothing more than "the Black girl" all the time if it takes time to identify her.

Afromerica is going to publish this so Black America can see and rest assured that we still live in a society indifferent to blacks. I'm showing my children this also so they can be prepared for their future.

Thanks for confirming my and our beliefs that racism thrives.
