Developing A Plan for Fitness Here are some guidelines to keep in mind when incorporating any kind of physical activity into your life: 1. Have a Plan - Before beginning any bodywork program, you need to develop a plan and commit yourself to it for a reasonable amount of time. Do not just say you are and don't. It all begins in the mind, deciding that this is what you need to do and not because society has pressured you into it. 2. Get a Physical Checkup - If you have been inactive for many months or have concerned about your body's ability to perform at the level you would like, you may want to have a physician check you over. 3. Accomplish Goals - The goal of any bodywork program is attainment of complete mind-body harmony. This can be done by progressively attaining higher and higher goals. Decide for what reason you want to attain an ideal body weight and keep that perspective alive. 4. Progress Slowly - Slow, deliberate progress gives you the opportunity to integrate your bodywork activity into your normal life routine. Begin slowly; don't impulsively try to run a long distance the first day or over lift too much weight while weight training. 5. Warm up and cool down - All bodywork activity should be pr4eceded by a brief period of stretching, breathing, and relaxing to prepare your mind and body to receive the uttermost benefit and pleasure from bodywork. © 2003 by AfroStaff
