AFRO ARROGANCE
fubu (5K)Walking Advertisements!!!

Do you have the new Jordans? Do you have a Gucci purse? Do have a Sean John velour jogging suit? Are you rockin' Prada, Louis Vutton, Coach, and Armani Exchange? Are you a walking Advertisement?

It seems that many of us spend thousands of dollars each year on intensive advertising campaigns for companies and people which we hold no stock in and probably do not know. And it is not just the average "Tequan" doing this either. It is everyone from every economic background.

I mean many rap and hip hop stars provide free advertisements for products in their songs and in their videos. Then because a certain product is "big-uped" by celebrities, several of us "consumers" go out and buy that product but we just don't buy the product that is understated with a non-visible label...we buy the product that clearly states its maker!

Haven't you ever wondered why these companies have an active ad campaign geared towards the average consumer? Most of these clothing companies like Donna Karen, Coach, Louis Vutton, Armani Exchange, and Gucci rely on free walking advertisements like yourself. I mean I don't blame them...it is the cheapest and most effective form of advertisements.

It seems so many people are willing to spend great amounts of money to pay a company to advertise that companies products. So in essence you're paying someone to help them make more money! In addition, the company releases new products every season making the product you bought last season obsolete!! Is this not INSANE??????

Either we are all incredibly stupid or insane to continue to perpetuate this expensive cycle. So, is the solution not to buy "nice" or expensive clothes ever again? NO, I am definately not saying that. I think the problem isn't paying inflated prices for clothes, shoes or purses but rather the reasons why most people buy these products even when they cannot afford them. I believe many people use clothes to create the image of the person they want to be.

"I want to look rich so I wear Fendi shoes, a Gucci watch and carry a Louis Vutton purse."
"I want to look successful so I buy an Amarni suit"
"I want to look cool so I rock Nike Air Force Ones"
"I want look happy"

And where do we get the notion that Louis Vutton, Jordan, Nike, Fendi, Prada, BCBG, BEBE and Bissou Bissou will helps us create the "look" we are yearning to achive...the media and our peers! Perhaps, if we spent half as much time concerning ourselves with being "walking advertisments" with actually aquiring wealth, being succesful and accepting ourselves, we might actually be happy!
