How to Make Serious Social ChangeSmall scale, sporadic boycotts and protest against social injustices and unwanted government decisions are simply not enough to make serious change in this country. If U.S. citizens really want to change things for the better and in their favor, there is only one way to do it; Go Hollywood....[more]
I was willing to ignore any insinuations about this years Spiderman movie being subconsciously racist and give the movie a chance; mainly because my 6 year-old son is fascinated by the comic book character and was awaiting number 3, even saving his hard-earned garbage-run dollars toward that Friday's premier. I admit, I too wanted to see Spidey at work expecting a positive message to be sent to all 4 of my school-age kids. But as I watched, endowed with my gift from God - to see things as they really are - my spirit was vexed as the plot unfolded and my English Lit/poetry critic awaken....[more]
No more light-hearted commentary about the degenerate television programming of the Black Entertainment Television network as read on most passivist Black websites. As one of the most unproductive television networks in the business, BET has hit bottom; coming under attack from the very people it supposedly serves. BET is suppose to be Black America’s claim to progress in this dismal, racist country and its history yet, truth is, racism itself fuels its programming schedule with Chicken-Pecking is its driving force....[more]
I don't think it will surprise anyone to hear me say that I'm a mad Black man right about now. I'm angry that the image of Black men in America is once again, under attack. There has been one new stereotype added to the paradigm over the past few decades-the Black man in drag, currently re-emerging, headed by filmmaker/actor Tyler Perry....[more]
In an attempt to set positive Black character back 60 years in order to exalt samboism, the Wayans Brothers have failed in doing so after a ruling by the Federal Government via the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office who "rejected the name [Nigga] submitted by actor/comedian Damon Wayans for his hip-hop clothing line."...[more]
2004 may have been the Year of the Foxx (Jamie, that is) but 2005 has certainly turned out to be a breakout year for Terrence Howard. The versatile thespian received rave reviews for his powerful performances in a half-dozen feature films, most notably, Crash, Hustle & Flow, Animal and Four Brothers....[more]
The antics of Dave Chappelle's "The Niggar Family" skit has set Black America back 40 years, along with all other "nigga" jokes told and Black behaviors mimicked by Black comedians, actors, and up and coming comics........[more]
The news media insist on publishing comments and concerns from Bill Cosby about the state of Black America. In all of the reports, the overtone is slanted toward him rebuking Black parents and how they raise their children, how Black couples are conducting their relationship business, and how Black children are acting in public........[more]
Once the unparalleled leader for the cause of Black America, now the mere residue of Hollywood immorality; the NAACP is nothing more than a liaison between star-struck Black nine-to-5vers and post-vaudeville sambos. Every aspect of Black culture was represented at the Image awards; however, it was to a sad extent.......[more]
Last month while recovering from a debilitating case of influenza, I tuned in to the talk show circuit to see what Ricki Lake, Jenny Jones, and Jerry Springer were up to. Not surprisingly, after viewing these shows over a three-day-interval, I came away with a disturbing conclusion: African-Americans have a tendency to make fools of themselves on national television while the audience cheers them on......[more]
From almost 100 years of film and television here are the most popular movies and television programs with a Black focus........[more]
Why do we sit and allow ourselves to be indoctrinated by the belief systems and influences of Hollywood? What power has this craving for entertainment led us to and why do Hollywood producers feed us the stuff they know is dangerous for the mind.....[more]
