Data on Children Whose Parents are Involved in School Activities - 1999
Less than half of school-age children's parents attend school meetings, events, or conferences. This could be a major factor in a child's behavior. This also reveals that the majority of parents are more concerned or preoccupied with something other than their child's education. Parent involvement has more recently become an issue with school systems. Teachers complain that parents do not take enough of an active role in their children's education, which requires more work from the teachers. Teachers not only have to teach the children, but be parental figures to them also. However, more teachers are renouncing the parental role and resorting to discipline techniques enforced by school policies. This leads to more children being suspended and expelled from school. © 2003 by AfroStaff
