Follow-up to: Corporate Plantation: Political Repression and the Hampton Model Hampton University students faced disciplinary hearings on Dec 2, 2005 at 9:00 am in the Student Center cyber lounge. As I arrived I immediately noticed bands of protesters already picketing right outside the University. By the time the six other students and I met with the parents and lawyers in front of the room that the hearing was to be held, there were already over 20 student supporters standing right outside the door....[more]
Heavy-handed Repression of recent Student Activism
The following list of Black female/male student enrollment ratios at Historically Black Colleges is telling. The figures are for the 1999-2000 year. We believe that the figures are probably representative of what is occurring at predominantly white colleges where Black students are enrolled. You don't have to be a mathematician to figure out why our critical thinkers are concerned. Check out the percentages below........[more]
Going to college is NOT "white" in action; going to college is about making a future for yourself and your possible future family. It's about learning of the world around you and how to get over in a society that values education, not "whites only.".......[more]
There are also things about the concept of college that many people do not understand. College trains us to be productive workers in a capitalist society yet neglects to teach us how to protect ourselves against capitalist ventures. Afromerica will examine the relationship between preparing yourself for life and being prepared.
