AFRO LINUX
linuxbird (2K)Choosing Linux over Windows Operating System

Have you ever considered that there maybe another operating system other than Windows 98, 2000, or XP? Well, there is, and we are not talking about Macintosh; we are talking Linux. Please, do not let that word scare the crap out of you; Linux is not as scary as Windows people would have you to believe. In fact, it has gotten user-friendlier over the years and right now is at its best for a desktop system.

Yes, it may be hard giving up Microsoft Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Word and changing to Netscape, Open Office, and Evolution mail system, but they all do the same things; search the Internet, write documents, and email your friends and buddies. Once Linux is installed on your system, your PC experience only gets better. Below is some reason why you might switch from Windows to Linux:

1. Windows goes for $100 - $200 a pop, while Linux cost virtually $0.
2. Windows charges for support while Linux support can be found anywhere.
3. Linux runs smoother and uses less CPU power than Windows does.
4. Linux boxes are more compatible with Internet web servers than Windows are.
5. Linux boxes are much more secured from crackers than Windows is.
6. Linux will fit on any computer whether old or new.
7. Your Linux skills never have to change as opposed to Windows when you upgrade.

As you can see, there are advantages to using Linux over Windows, usability as well as economically. Performance wise, Linux is supreme to any windows OS (operating system). The power Linux OS's possesses is extremely needful in today's Internet sphere not to mention how much more protected you will be from viruses and hackers. Anything you can do with Windows, you can do with Linux, and more.

To get your copy of Linux you can either download it unto two or three CD's, or you can send for it for less than $40. You can go to your local computer bookstore and purchase the latest Linux book (for about $30) and get the operating system in the back cover. It's that easy. The best thing about Linux is that there are more than one flavor (or operating system) to choose from, such as Red Hat Linux, Mandrake Linux, Suse Linux, Slack Ware, Caldera OpenLinux, FreeBSD, and more.

If you are an adamant Windows user and are afraid to learn something new even for your own good, then we advise you to stay away from Linux because it will only ignore you. But if you are the type of person who takes chances and grabs life by the CPU, then Linux is for you. Furthermore, once you go Linux you never go back. Go here to check out Red Hat Linux. There is really no easiest Linux but for matters of simplicity, we suggest you start with Mandrake 9 or Red Hat Linux 8. You will thank us later.

When you get your Linux box installed, if you ever need assistance you can contact us, here at Afromerica, or go to the your Linux support page and or call them.
