blkbank (2K)Banking Black

Too many of our people do not realize how much a difference could be made in improving inner city Black communities if they opened a bank account at a Black-owned bank. Even if they kept their account open at their other conventional bank, opening another account at a Black bank in their community or online, is an investment in the Black community and strengthens Black economic power in many ways......[more]

freeway (3K)Simplicity to Complexity: The Cost of Advancement

For the last 20 years, the cost of living has definitely risen. In literal terms, it cost more to live an adequate life in today's society or even to continue at a level of normalcy. Though technology has brought us a more convenient lifestyle, it did not come without a higher price......[more]

4 Steps to Revolutionize the Black Economy
by Anthony Quiñones

It has been 140 years since slavery was legally abolished; 40 years since the Civil Rights movement began, yet our economic state has changed very little, if at all. Once we get past the façades of movements and causes, we must realize that we are and have always been in an economic war. Remember, blacks were allowed to ride at the front of the bus in Birmingham, Alabama due to the economic effect of the Rosa Parks-inspired bus boycott - not the newfound sympathy for people of color. Don't get it twisted......[more]

The Truth About Success
By Herbert Harris

Success is generally defined as a favorable or satisfactory outcome or result. Whatever you do in your life, you get results. Whether or not those results are the ones you desired, is basically whether you succeeded or failed in your endeavors. Success is often defined as the gaining of wealth, fame, rank and so on. However, in the most general terms, success is the the continuous realization of the outcomes or results you desire.......[more]

WalmartWalmart Begins Racial Market Targeting

To live in such a color-blind society, it sure seems color matters to corporate America who would cease to exist if it were not for racial demographics. To sale products and services, businesses use various demographics such as race, gender, and age to separate society into potential buyer segments. African-Americans (as the politically correct demographic would suggest) is the Black folk's segment....[more]

In Unity and Struggle

"It's time to go back to Gary," William Lucy told 1,500 delegates to the 34th annual convention of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU), meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, last week. "It's time to go back to Gary to talk among ourselves as trade unionists, as social activists, as political leaders, as academics about what it will take to move our communities forward.".......[more]

blkunion (3K)African Americans Need Their Own Labor Union: Uncle Tom's and Aunt Jemima's in the Construction Industry
By Gregory Carey, president - Black Construction Workers Association

The exclusion of African American construction workers in all trades of the construction industry in Seattle, Washington is due to two facts. (1) That there are too many Uncle Toms and Aunt Jemima's in bed with the white labor unions, white apprenticeship programs, white contractors or public agencies keeping us "in our place" or rationalizing their exclusionary practices of African Americans; and (2) because we African Americans do not have a labor union of our own that refers us to jobs and training opportunities.......[more]

Violence in the Workplace

Interestingly enough, the issue of workplace violence is one that Black people are not prominent in, and rarely involved in. Similar to the sniper incident in Maryland/Virginia, no one ever thought that a couple of Black guys were involved. Well, here is one study that does not include race as a measuring variable when usually, Blacks are included and in fact displayed in the most negative light.......[more]

Don't Just Get a Job; Make a Job
A Black person's guide to the future

What was once called "job security" is now more like "job insecurity." With more and more workers being laid off, company's bankrupting, downsizing, and going out of business over the past few years, this career instability has made the idea of self-employment more appealing to more people. Entrepreneurship is becoming a more attractive, and maybe even necessary, means of securing your future.....[more]
