It was obvious to the average sane, common sense-having, working person that the election was about the people's struggles against day-to-day survival. No jobs, low wages, unaffordable health insurance and prescription drugs, massive debt from student loans, credit cards, and many other policies that made living a simple life hard. The people felt left behind and ignored by their leaders in Washington. And as they struggled each day, the elitist lived smugly in their wealth. There was also concern about immigrants getting government benefits while natural-born citizens were unable to when they needed it.
Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump addressed each of these issues but from a different perspective. They appealed to the struggling and working poor on both ends of the party spectrum; the most important to the people being jobs and low wages. However, the establishment politicians such as Clinton and Bush missed the point. They talked about Isis and Climate change and insisted on belittling each other instead of listening to the people. Scandal ensued and after a few months of traditional (and sometimes shameful) campaigning as usual, the people's concerns were lost in a sea of irrelevant issues.
So now that the election is over, the politicians have returned to the same thing they were doing before this all got started. They are enacting laws and pushing bills that will do more damage to the American worker than ever. They are drudging up controversial foreign clashes that the world has never seen before, and they are fixing the system to work for the ones who profit from the labor of billions of people. Nothing has changed for the betterment of the people, and it seems that it will only get worse.
Instead of actually addressing the needs of the people, or taking any responsibility in fixing the country, political leaders have instead successfully increased hate and divisiveness between groups and nations of people; created more opportunity for oppression on the part of the poor and working class families, and enacted more inhumane policies and laws that will bring even more anger from within the people as before, only this time the outcome will not be so democratic. The leaders of this country have lost their way, and their ethical and moral foundation has shattered. They are not concerned about the people at all; they are only concerned with destroying each other, winning, and making money.
