THE OPEN MIND

Clever Ways of Hiding Bigotry
By T. Duffy

Unfortunately when blacks think of unfairness, the only thing they can relate it to is how they feel they have been treated by this country. But injustice can also come from those who also experience it. Such as blacks who make concessions for it, as a reason to be accepted by the status-quo. But that isn't the subject matter here.

Sometime ago and only recently the media along with some popular journalists had a public dialogue comparing the state of affairs of black men to black women. Since this seems to have less value for other minority groups, to me it borders on the line near injustice that has to be reviewed from time to time to see if it's working.

In a country where racism has always been the primary problem for blacks, if you believe there's really a reason to worry about this because they're holding jobs and positions for black men, you're sadly mistaken.

Things may seem to be changing for white women whose gaining power in many areas. But most of the power is still in the hands of white men. So since they usually spread themselves thinly as they attempt to extend that power to other parts of the world, they must find a way to protect what they have here.

For those who may feel I'm crazy or need a more intellectual explanation, I'll make it simple. They have a way to restrain black men, to insure less growth for blacks as a group. If black women are the only one's progressing, it should be obvious there's still a burden on the entire race. If this isn't true, why are other minority groups excluded. Regardless how some feel about this idea, conditions of unfairness aren't as obvious as they may expect. Sometimes it's as plain as the nose on their face.

If I'm suggesting intelligence may not have had anything to do with a black woman's chance of opportunity, should she remain silent about what she has attained? On the other hand, should black men be angry about his circumstances knowing in many situations, ignorance had nothing to do with being denied.

It would take blacks whose cognizant of the way this society have favored black women over black men, to understand the damage it has done. What may not be as apparent, individually black men are feeling and going through many of the same conditions all blacks were facing. Especially since criticism than support, seems to be more prevalent.

Women who feel secure in their gifts [which they are] since they are also black, fail to understand, they could be headed towards a total loss of ethnic identity, if they care, since privilege for them is taking black men towards extinction. So the drawbacks - regardless of if we should generally be proud of black women - only show how blacks as a group could be heading towards a collective unforeseen genocide.

What gives this some credence are the increasing numbers of black women marrying white men, that's recently been noted. Is this my conspiracy theory or is it paranoia? Neither. For those who's able to look closer, they would see how unwavering its affects has been for decades. So I'll ask again, what other minority group are dealing with the same thing?

Elder blacks may not worry about it, but it would be traumatic for younger blacks in the future to look around then realize they can't identify with anything. I could be right on point, since most can only relate to people like Martin Luther King.

What also adds to it are black women who's on the rise, may not believe it's important to query the intentions of whites from time to time as it relates to their tenure. So most measure their accomplishments by their own efforts, not wondering why many blacks, male and female, had their careers reneged.

This may seem a little over the edge, but the Native American probably never believed their existence in this country would never prolong interest, after the truce. If we honestly look at black men whose been able to rise above it all, you will also see women who will attempt to infringe on that success, instead of supporting it, not realizing any success of his will often be shared.

Looking further into this, if it takes them to celebrity, they will often be under the watchful eyes of people checking their every move, which the media are the primary advocates. Oddly, that rarely occurs when it's a black woman. Black women may have more opportunities, but it's not because they're smarter, it's sometimes minimized because of gender.

Black men have always tried to leave a positive mark on the society, even though most of them were stolen or dismantled after receiving warnings from intimidating factions they couldn't refuse. But history will still show, even when education was lacking, many rose above it. So knowing this and fearing it's probability, this has set aside an unwritten rule for denial that has resulted in decades of black men's unimportance.

Since it's never been a joint undertaking from defiant sources but a tactic used by institutions when needed, the results should have been depression or physiological conditions. But there's usually out of the ordinary violent characteristics exhibited by these men that's often directed towards each other.

Hearing about young black men killing each other, going to jail, lack of interest in personal growth, regardless where they are socially, tells me it's a deep-rooted character flaw that has yet run its course. So there's no way I could say what has happened to black men is totally unfairness, since they have times when they could assess how it has affected them.

But I'm still convinced, the circumstances that's contributing to the gap between black men and women is similar to how whites dealt with blacks as a group. If you show favor for one child over the other, in most situations they will strike out.

Being a realist, I know there's no way I could singly have the power to shock young black men to think, before putting themselves in detrimental situations. Those who seem to always be angry also refuse to trust or consider its self hatred and the anger towards other young black men, will often meet a stale-mate. Although I'm usually in defense of them, what worries me is, few seem to be ready to address what ails them from the inside out, without someone standing in between them.

For any changes, it has to happen within their own network, amongst themselves. Yes, I or other's can complain or even show some of the reasons for their troubles, but it takes those in the middle of it to make an attempt to change the condition. Sometimes dealing with a mental scale that's moving from optimism heading towards pessimism, I would still hope things would change.

But the rhetoric about the rise of black women and fall of black men will probably continue until they realize that until the gap gets closer, there's less of a chance for blacks to survive in this country.
