What's Worse - Mexico's Image of Blacks or Hip-Hop'sBy Jim Neusom - July 2, 2005
We have all been talking about Mexico's new "Memin Pinguin" postage stamp, depicting a Jim Crow-era black cartoon character (see http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=%22Memin+Pinguin%22+&btnG=Search), as an insult to Blacks in America. CNN, Yahoo and the big 3 media have all been echoing the words of Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the like, but when Min. Farrakhan, Bill Crosby and others, who speak on the negative and hurtful image of Hip-Hop (as portrayed by mega-entertainment conglomerates such as Clear Channel, Viacom, etc.) they are dismissed by the media as moral alarmist. It is socially and politically correct, for whites to portray Hip-Hop culture as Stephin Fecthit type characters in movies, television and print. Think I'm kidding...did you see Warren Beatty in Bulworth, Vince Vaughn in Be Cool, (I could go on and on). So I ask you, the Black online Diaspora; is the story below, any worse then Mexico's "Memin Pinguin"??? Gaggle of Gangsta Gadgets Imagine: gadgets for the hip-hop world. And that's exactly what the folks at Sync Magazine did for the June issue, delivering a range of fantastically conceived pieces of gear, including the "Laptop Low rider," the "Ba-Donka-Donk Mouse" and seven other concepts that will blow your mind and make you scream. Check out these hilarious pictures for a look at what might happen if hip-hop ruled all!
