African American Business Summit 2005 By Jim Neusom - May 2 2005
Turning Point Magazine (http://www.turningpointmagazine.com), now in its 13 year, has featured cutting edge small business stories shown and told from an entrepreneurial perspective. Starting as a Los Angeles based publication and expanding nationally, Turning Point Magazine has provided a direct diversity vehicle for corporate America to reach the multi billion-dollar black small business market. Turning Point hosts and sponsors several events throughout the year. This year the 8th Annual African American Business Summit 2005 (http://www.aabs2005.com) will be June 23 - 26 at the Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa, in Palm Springs, California. This celebrity filled, can't-miss event, is co-sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank and includes some of the most well known corporate names in the nation as event partners; AM/PM Convenience Stores, Fox Entertainment Group, Union Bank, and Curtis Moring Insurance. The theme is BUSINESS REDEFINED. Providing serious "how-to" business-building instruction in an environment that restores balance and creativity, the African American Business Summit 2005 (AABS 2005) is an extraordinary experience for successful African American entrepreneurs, professionals and corporate executives. AABS 2005 Chairpersons are Jaci and Morris L. Reid, a dynamic husband and wife team known for their successful fusion of the business, political and philanthropic worlds. You may also remember Morris Reid as the senior staff aide to the late Commerce Secretary Ron Brown. As Brown's plane was preparing to depart for its ill-fated last flight in 1996, he asked Morris to deplane to attend a meeting. Due to this last-minute decision, Morris_ life was spared. After the accident, Morris had the responsibility of accompanying the bodies of his mentor and colleagues back to the United States. Morris says he now lives his life for those 33 people. Although always hardworking and aggressive, he uses their memory to double his efforts toward making a difference in the world. Speakers, entertainers and presenters include Iyanla Vanzant, Judge Mablean Ephriam (Host of Divorce Court TV show and lawyer), Kwame Jackson (NBC's "The Apprentice"), Howard Hewett (pop and gospel recording artist), Lisa Nichols (Co-Author, Chicken Soup for the African American Soul), Maria Dowd (African American Women on Tour), Reginald Williams (Procurement Resources), Dr. Eve Allen (Circle of Health), Anthony Asadullah Samad (Author and Commentator), C. Everett Wallace (National Minority Franchise Association), and over 50 other small business experts. From the kick-off golf tournament on June 23 to the closing gospel brunch on June 25, AABS 2005 is filled with new information and new opportunities for you. Tools for redefining and growing your business are provided through dynamic and innovative workshops, keynote presentations and work sessions. For a full list of the panels and workshops, please visit http://www.aabs2005.com) Be prepared to hear a lot more about AABS 2005. Their Media Partners list, reads like a who's who, of the National Black Press Core. This is a worthwhile and important national Black event and as part of the Black Press I take pride in helping to promote this national black business event.
