Why Are We In Iraq? By E. Lee Sullivan As the death toll mounts in Iraq, tens of thousands of Iraqians, over one thousand American troops, dozens of suicides, thousands wounded, I keep wondering, why are we there, what good does it serve?
A) "Cause he tried to kill my daddy." B) To spread Democracy (origin of democracy meaning demon rule) C) To pillage and plunder Ancient Babylon D) For oil control and power E) Protection against climatic disaster F) All of the above
Why are so many dying? Will there be a draft? (My opinion, yes) Will things change if Kerry wins the presidential election? (My opinion, no). All this much ado about voting! Apparently we don't get it. The last presidential campaign, specifically in Florida, (which seems to be getting its share of poetic justice, Frances, Charlie, Ivan and Jeanne on the way. And by the way, for those who don't know, the same route that these hurricanes take are the same routes taken by the slave ships to bring Blacks to this country) Michael Moore's 9/11 revealed that you can't overthrow this situation by voting. Registering the youth simply allows selective service to know where they are. Are we being bamboozled and hoodwinked, again. You don't need to be a physic to see, just use your own brain for a change. There are numerous books out now that don't subscribe to this present situation or administration. Those who support it do so out of fear, profit or ignorance. Some want to feel that the American government will protect them from terrorist, they want to feel safe. African Americans have lived with terrorist and terrorism all the days of our life in America, I say to them, welcome to the club. An economy created for the poor and people of color to enlist into the armed services to obtain a decent way of life, while the rich, powerful and wealthy never even consider it. American Capitalism says well, somebody got to take out the trash, my answer is, take out your own damn trash. As for African Americans, not considering holding their vote until their issues were addressed, not voting for their own in the primary, banning behind a candidate who voted for the war, the Patriot Act, a member of Skull and Bones, does not support economic justice through Reparations, even a baby knows not to touch a hot stove twice. The true Spirituals reveal that not much will change in the next four years. I say that not much has changed in the last thousands of years. The strong still conquer the weaker, like bullies preying on those that they think or know they can beat. And perhaps that's just one more answer to, Why, are we in Iraq? E.
