THE BURNING BUSH

Dan Hardman
Addressing the Gay Marriage Issue

Recently, while listening to the radio, as I usually do, I heard a lesbian being interviewed and heard her say that the gay and lesbian movement was inspired by the African American civil rights struggle of the 1950's and 60's.

At first, I was offended, thinking, 'How dare they compare the civil rights struggle to their homosexual rights struggle.' As I saw it, they had a choice as to whether to be gay or not, whereas we did not have a choice to be black or not. This was my normal reaction for I had heard this argument before and it always angered me for them to take such liberty making such a comparison. Then I stopped and considered just what they were saying.

They are proclaiming that, whether gay male or lesbian female, none-the-less they are people, and deserve the right to decide whom, how, and why they marry. When I go to the grocery store, I don't care if the checker is gay or lesbian (for brevity's sake I will use G/L), or if my doctor is G/L, or the police officer, the telemarketer, cable guy, trash person, fast food worker, you name it. Their sexual orientation, which does not (shouldn't) affect how they do their daily tasks, matters less than a flea's weight to me.

Why should I care if the G/L marry? They don't want to marry me! If they did then they would have a problem, but since that is not the case, why are so many people losing their minds over an issue that in reality does not even affect them? I know why. It's because they fear the entire US population will begin to have same sex marriages. How ludicrous is that?

The operative word here, people, is FEAR. They fear, therefore they are control freaks. Their favorite reason for making the anti-G/L marriage stand is that God is against it because it says so in the Bible, and back in the day God even went so far as to wipe out a whole heap of them in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Neither the US nor the rest of the world will turn into Sodom and Gomorrah by allowing G/L marriages. One will not see all hell break loose, yet one will see all those who have been in the closet turn out to take part in their newfound freedom. These people are who they are but legalizing G/L marriages will not make anyone who is not already G/L become G/L.

What will happen is there will be a wave of G/L marriages following the initial legalization, mirrored by the normal celebrating of their newfound freedom. After, they will resume their place and blend back into society, working, living, and PAYING TAXES like everybody else. How insane is that, for one to pay taxes to support a system that is antagonistic towards them?

It should make us as African Americans very angry, for it wasn't long ago that we were in the same situation. The implications within this scenario of refusing them the right to marry are tremendous, and shame on us for not being more supportive of G/L, failing to grasp the dynamics thereof.

Further, it is unconstitutional, for it is discrimination plain and simple based on one's sexual orientation. Those of you who claim that America is a Christian nation founded on Biblical and Godly principles should just knock it off. You want to make your argument by surrounding the issue with values of morality, sinfulness and Godly judgment. Yet, the shear number of nightclubs, strip joints, gambling casinos, legalized prostitution houses, etc…, causes your morality argument to crumble under the weight of your own hypocrisy.

To claim freedom as their aim while making and keeping slaves is always a good standard by which to measure the character of the beloved founding fathers of America. From the beginning, it was the elite manipulating the masses, as it is in this case. This country was founded on slavery, lies, miscegenation, torture, and brutality rather than God's divine guidance through kind and concerned founding fathers. It was not, I repeat, not founded on Christian principles of love, truth, justice, freedom or any combination thereof. This is just another in the long, long list of lies and deceitful maneuvers contrived by the elite to divide the masses and keep them confused.

Furthermore, there are many homosexuals in Congress, state and federal Judiciary, all Executive branches, in every part of government, the military, health care industry, school administrations, boy scouts, churches, major corporations, small businesses... In short, there are homosexuals everywhere you go.

Don't you realize that many a school principal, tax collector, doctor, attorney, minister, postal carrier, etc…, are G/L? You can't tell me you don't know this! And don't get me started on the Catholic priests. That's just wrong, pretending to be servants of God and community, then molesting and raping little boys. The jig is up.

We, the black people of America, were once the leaders in challenging the status quo of the powerful elite, yet now we're simply standing by not wanting to get our hands dirty. We are very fragmented into groups who no longer seem to be able or willing to come together on any one issue or for any cause.

However, we still must understand that we have inspired, and are still inspiring others to fight for their rights, and we must not let the fact that one of those groups, Gays and lesbians, has a different sexual orientation than the majority of us African Americans. I bet you didn't realize that many of those who marched in the south of the 50's & 60's were black gays and lesbians!

This being my first submission, I will stop here and let you digest this. Thanks for taking time to visit with me and I look forward to seeing you next time. Peace…
